Daily/Weekly Exercises:

Language Arts: Daily group reading is ongoing and naturally predicates many of the class discussions and activities. There is always a book being read as a class, and an approved personal choice book being read at home, for the monthly oral book reports. Dictation from the group reading book & spelling tests alternate every other week. IEW writing methodology https://iew.com/intro-iew/working-iew-materials/how-does-iew-work is employed, as well as the Writing Traits Method. There is a continuous emphasis on comprehension, as well as the rules of grammar. Note-taking: via Cornell Notes, gaining the necessary tools for outlining and re-writing/re-telling of events in a story. Speaking and presenting are also part of the daily environment and interactions. Presenting for the group naturally occurs at different levels of comfort over time, and is unique to each child. I respect and follow the cues of the children.

Math:

I will be using Saxon Math this year for all grade levels. I will use Khan and YouTube to supplement the math lessons. Every day I will teach an individual math lesson/concept, and then students will complete their daily lesson independently. Saxon is spiral math, which means the kids will be reviewing and brushing up on past math concepts to help ensure retention and proficiency as they continue to learn new concepts.
